Care to make a wager?

-Blair’s Point Of View.
Where is Nate? I didn’t even see as much as a glimpse of him at my party. And he phoned me this morning –said he wanted to give me something. I wonder what did he get me –the necklace?
There was a sound of footsteps, coming towards me. I looked up from my mobile phone that I was fiddling in my hands.
Chuck.
Again.
‘Stalk me much?’ I asked, annoyed, and walked to the balcony wall. I rested my arm there.
Chuck followed.
Of course.
‘What are you doing up here all alone?’ he asked. Like it wasn’t obvious. [property of a.scarlet.fantasy.]
I answered anyway. ‘I don’t know where Nate is, and he always calls me at midnight when it turns my birthday,’ I said that all in a matter-of-fact way.
‘Wow!’ he exclaimed, his voice heavy with sarcasm. ‘I wouldn’t count on it tonight.’
I rolled my eyes, but he continued
‘Doesn’t it strike you as a little bit of a coincidence? The timing of everything?’ he cocked his head.
‘What do you mean?’ I asked suspiciously. This was Chuck after all.
‘Nate decides to get back with you just after your mother puts the brakes on the captain’s deal.’
Shocked. Almost.
However, I composed myself quickly. ‘He wouldn’t do that.’
‘Yes he would.’ Chuck said into my face. ‘If it were to help his family, you know he would.’
There was a little nagging at the back of my head. I ignored it.
‘Nate loves me.’ Chuck sighed. ‘Whatever he’s doing, wherever he is, he will call at midnight, you’ll see!’
Chuck seemed thoughtful for a second. Then he spoke, ‘Care to make a wager?’
I knew he was up to no good. [property of a.scarlet.fantasy.]
‘-If he calls, I’ll leave you alone forever. If he doesn’t, -’ he emphasised on the ‘doesn’t’, ‘-you spend the night with me.’ His face was so close to mine.
‘I will not!’ I replied a little too quickly and pushed him away from me.
I was totally repulsed by that idea. Spend the night? With Chuck?! Never.
‘I thought you were sure,’ he seemed disappointed. Why wouldn’t he?
I didn’t like the sound of this. Not one bit.
‘You’re gonna lose,’ I told him, childishly. He seemed slightly amused.
‘He has never missed my birthday.’
