Last days of sixteen

I will be turning seventeen this Sunday. I am loving the prospect of it, and I hope that this year will be a better year. Last year was crazy, but well, that's what makes life interesting, I guess. Which really makes me don't mind it so much.

I hope that my birthday party will be good.

Well, I'm really busy most of the time. Last year of high school. I would love to say yay. Coz -I just joined this group on Facebook- like that group's name state, my school is the type which would probably still expect us to be present if the world ends in 2012. LOL! (Half) kidding.

Anyway, seeing my schedule's all topsy-turvy -maybe also a sign that I should make a new one or try to make one. LOL!- I really have no idea when I will be here.

But I'll try. So for now, enjoy!

The one thing I hate the most is saying goodbye. It's never been easy for me. I mean, how do you approach the concept of goodbye? Goodbyes are all different. Some are for a day, some are for a month. But others are forever. And the concept of forever is hard to accept. It's like, hey, I'm never going to see you again, goodbye. It doesn't feel complete. But I think that's what goodbyes are. They're incomplete and you honestly don't know how long the goodbye will last. It's a part of life. A part of life I could do without.

Condolences to those who lost their child, relative, friend or whoever that person was in your life. I don't even know why it's affecting me so much -though I think it's even affecting those who didn't know them- , but I guess that it is because it hit so close to home -not that literally.

It's been lingering, no, it's been haunting my thoughts. I've been thinking about the meaning of death and everything, and yes, unlike most, I've come to answers.

They are now back in the arms of Mother Nature, the Universe, their creator, God or what you may like to think of that as.

But I think that we should wish them the best in their next trip, and move on. We still have our lives to live. I'm not saying that we forget them. I'm saying that we keep those memories of them and we should start doing what we have to do for us too. We can't just let death take over our lives, or we will soon be all sick and dead too.

Keep the happy memories.

And just because someone died, it doesn't mean that we can't laugh, doesn't mean that we're not suppose to laugh anymore. We need humour too.

I've been having so many lasts recently. The last day of the year. The last day of school holidays. Reading The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks which I really love.
But which, the endings are also beginnings.
The last day of the year means the begining of a new year. The last day of hols (holidays) means the beginnig of school days -yuks. And the Last Song...well, it was awesome.

Listening to you through my Pod

Here's a book I read recently. And yes, it was good!

I really loved it. I first picked it up at random from a book store -Borders- because of its quirky cute cover. I turned it to the back and read the short description of the book that they always have, and it attracted me alot. It's a book about appearances, and how they sometimes can be deceiving. Or most of the time.

Flipping open the book, on the first page, were a few words -and by this, I mean a whole page (if you're a writer, you should probably know by now that writers can seldom keep their writing short. Meaning me too. And you have to excuse us -and get use to it- for it. Coz we actually enjoy it. Thus being able to write books.)- by Sarah Dessen, the author of it. And that, well, I like that. When the authors reach out to us -that's why I love it when authors dedicate or at least mention their readers in the Acknowledgement page. It's really nice. *Reason number one why I love Stephenie Meyer. :)

I'm not sure about you -if you were like my cousin who has read so much till she finds books boring, though she still reads them. I hope- but I love this book. It's a book which I could relate too.

Intelligence is never over-rated

Okay, so here's the book cover of the Da Vinci code -don't say duh! I don't care if it is tempting.

Anyway, enough of talking about nothing. I finish reading it two days ago. And it was totally awesome. It's a really 'intelligent' book with enough plots and suspense to make it one of the best fiction ever. Seriously. Which means that it would be probably going up my list to almost the very top of my most favourite books with Harry Potter and twilight.

I've learnt so much from it. And I started wondering -a little. Coz you know, I don't regret. What's the use of regretting? You can't change the past.- why it took me so long to read it. And I remember asking my uncle -coz we happened to be talking about it then- if it was good. And he, being a christian, told me that it was a load of rubbish. Which after reading this book and contemplating what he said, it probably might be true. But then again, what is fiction? You can call fiction a load of rubbish too, if you're really that kind of person.

As for me, I happen to love books. And fiction. And magic. So yeah. Maybe you might say that my head is filled with rubbish. But I think otherwise.

As for the Da Vinci code, it's really fascinating and worth reading -if you happen to be like me and have not read it yet. And if you are also the reading type.

The Short Story 2

Heather plucked the earphone out of her left ear, before pressing her thumb against where it once was, massaging it. Her ear hurt from all that pressure.

Pressure…where did it come from? Heather had felt like she had just apparated -Harry Potter style- for the first time. Except that she had never known how to apparate and no one had taught her nor brought her alongside them.

So how did she do it? And while she was musing over that, where in the world was she?

She shifted her attention to her surroundings. She was in a completely out of the world and bizarre place. Within her line of sight was a once majestic but now crumbling stone arch with what appeared to be intricate, detailed carvings on it. The vanilla twilight lighting made it cast an impressive shadow. Apart from that out of nowhere arch, Heather seemed to be at a plain. Around her were the occasional tuft of knee-high golden grass. Heather looked down and saw that her feet were on a dusty concrete ground. Dusty with grey cement powder.

But what made the place truly outlandish were the owls there. Owls, in hundreds, filled the sky with their brown, white and around one in ten, black feathers. The stone arch appeared to be their resting ‘bench’ -it was so crowded that some of them had even resorted to sitting on the ground. Flat land, not exactly what they liked.

Heather took in this whole scene, before noticing a witch -don’t ask how she knew, but something in Heather’s gut told her that that lady was a witch- a few feet from the arch, sitting by a charcoal black cauldron and an animated fire dancing in the breezy air.

The fire! Heather realized, and drew in a quick breath.

Indeed, it was the eternal flame. Except that over here, it burned with a brilliant white light with the slightest tinge of blue.

The witch looked up, startling Heather. Her pupils were a violent orange and amber red colour -the colour of fire. And they stared right through Heather’s warm brown ones.

A shiver ran down Heather’s spine.

A Short Story

Heather pressed the repeat button on her iPod, to hear the too familiar rhythm at the beginning of the song. She leaned back against the chair, staring out at the rain. The song soon reached the chorus part: ‘I need a little more luck than a little bit…’ It was ‘Tongue Tied’ by Faber Drive. The lyrics suited her mood.

She continued sitting there, watching the rain as it fell, making fine streaks across the air. As she stared, she noticed a curious sight.

Right across the street, there was a vacant double-storey house. At least it was, until a few months ago, when Heather noticed that an old lady had shifted in. Nobody believed Heather though, especially her mum, when she tried to tell her. ‘If somebody had shifted in, we would know. There would’ve been delivery vans and everything. Look at the house; do you think it would still be in this condition if someone really shifted in? Do you really believe that anyone in the right mind would want to live there? Just look at it Heath!’ Heather knew better than to argue with her mum, so she just kept her mouth shut. But she did revise her observations.

Sure enough, the house didn’t look fit enough for anyone to live in. Cobwebs concealed holes that were once windows, while creepers crept on the walls, growing over the dirty paint so that the house looked like some kind of concrete plant. Two cracked pots sat on the balcony, which railings look like they could snap and fall at the slightest touch. The yard was overgrown with weeds that were waist high and towards the east was a huge maple tree that looked like it could touch the clouds if it tried hard enough. The place was eerie, and even adults, not to mention children, would cross the road to the other side when they passed.

Heather had put it behind the mind, but it was then, when she first saw the startling sight. Because there in the rain, around a blazing fire, Heather could make out a black shadow. The shadow that had a human’s outline, seemed to be warming her hands over the fire. Maybe it was the shadow, maybe it was the fire in the rain, but anyway, Heather scooped up her iPod and stuffed it into her pocket -totally forgetting her luck that day- grabbed an umbrella and went out.

She stepped across the puddles in the mud and headed to the bush where she had made a hole through it ever since she noticed that the house was inhabited and peeked through it.

Nothing strange or unusual happened at first, the lady -which Heather saw- sat as still as a statue, only moving her hands occasionally, till the song on Heather’s iPod ended. And everything happened so quickly. As Heather glanced down at the little display screen, the lady glanced up at Heather and ---

There are many mysteries in the world, and beyond it. But two things I know for sure are that the lady was a witch, and also, the last song that Heather heard was ‘Shadow of the Day’. After that incident, Heather vanished, and no one knew or suspected a thing. Those who knew her had their minds modifies and as for the fire, it was the Eternal Flame, which burns anywhere, no matter what the conditions, but only that amount.

I was the one who put out the flame - something that only two people in the world know and can do- but as for who I am, well, let’s just say that I’ll remain one of the mysteries in the world, and beyond it.

I read this and finished it yesterday. I realised that I prefer Gossip Girl. Though LA is probably nicer...I don't know, though I will visit there soon -as we are suppose to think like no time exists. :D

Ok, so I didn't like the ending. It's just like these 'stupid' people -Anna, in this case. Though not like technically, since she aces in all her exams (which I'm going to do. LOL! :D Just for me, I'm not up for those competition things, so if you are one of those people, stay away, and I'll stay away from you in turn.)- but what she did that I didn't like is that she literally caused her own misery!

God, they're sick, aren't they?

Then Ben would probably hook up with one of those mean girls again -I'm just guessing here as I haven't read the next book and the next next and ...- , and Anna would probably get all sad and competitive and try to snatch him back again.

And she hurt him. Just walking away like that.

Despite what people -girls, in this case- think, I think that guys have feelings too. Just probably not over the top girl-y drama queen type -and that's not all girls, just some.

Poor Ben.

LOL! Well, so I'm thinking -and what I'm trying to get across is- if you want your happiness, go after it and welcome it, not walk away when it comes to you and expect it to come again and again.

That's about all. I've got to go for lunch. Write more next time. :)

I read this a few days ago -it's my school holidays here now, in case you were wondering- and it's really nice. Really deep, which is-exactly what I like! :)

I also read Inkheart and Inkspell -currently reading Inkdeath now. They're...okay. Mostly because I think they were translated from German -you didn't know that, did you? I didn't too- and along the way, might have lost their 'special' taste.

But they have good suspense.

I guess, for if they didn't, I would've quitted a long time ago.

But Inkdeath is good! Read it, if you can. :)

I finally finished 'Pride and Prejudice' a few days ago. LOL! Took me long enough, it did. I actually started reading it about a year ago, and I thought that I would have to conquer it to be able to finish it.

But that wasn't really necessary. I enjoyed it immensely, savoured the lovely language and words Jane Austen used, was fascinated by Elizabeth and Darcy, and in whole, love the whole story!

If you haven't read it, I suggest that you do -if you like reading.

But for this book -the unabridged one- you will need a lot of concentration and cannot really skim over the words.

Or maybe it was just me. :)

New Moon review

I watches the New Moon trailer a few days ago -I actually watched a few versions on youtube- and I can't really believe that I'm saying this but I'm actually looking forward to watching it! And I think it would be actually better than that stupid twilight one that Catherine Hardwick made -no offence to you, Stephenie Meyer. And if you want to know, I love twilight more than all the 'fans' put together -again, no offence.

I was at the shopping centre just a while ago. And as it's our school holidays now -YAY! :D - I was looking at some nail polish, and at this 'stall' (coz it wasn't really a stall. Oh, it was a counter. Lol!) which sold this Bloop nail polish, there was this really nice sales girl who helped me test them. She was so friendly, really nice.
